On Top of the World is one of the first outdoor sculptures Russel ever made. Shortly after moving to New Zealand, Russel said he felt ‘on top of the world’, a fitting name for his first big piece. The sculpture is a contemporary take on the traditional armillary. An old astronomical instrument composed of rings showing the positions of important circles of the celestial sphere.
