The New Zealand Tern is probably New Zealand’s rarest breeding bird. They are slender, lightly built birds with long, forked tailed, narrow wings, long bills, and relatively short legs. These beautiful aquatic birds have incredible flying capabilities. Their unique wing shape was what inspired Russel to create his simple version using folded metal. This sculpture catches the coastal bird in flight and is designed to be stuck into the garden.
